EKA Mobility Rolls Out Its 1000th Electric Vehicle
EKA Mobility , one of India’s foremost new-age electric commercial vehicle manufacturers, has announced the successful rollout of its 1,000th Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) from its highly advanced manufacturing ecosystem in Chakan, Pune. Strategically timed to coincide with World Environment Day, the production milestone signals a rapid scale-up in domestic clean energy manufacturing capabilities and highlights the intensifying electrification of India's last-mile logistics, urban transit, and intra-city supply chains.
A Symbolic Handover and Global Ties
The 1,000th vehicle rolling off the Chakan assembly floor was an EKA 6S, recognized as India's first steering-wheel-equipped electric passenger three-wheeler configured with a driver plus six-seater capacity layout. Placed within the L5M category, the vehicle is built to optimize high-occupancy urban transport with a 15 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack and a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) generating 65 Nm of torque, enabling a top speed of 50 km/h and an operational range of up to 140 km per single charge.
In a ceremony intersecting community welfare with green technology, the landmark vehicle was officially handed over to the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust, one of Pune’s most highly respected charitable organizations, which will deploy the clean-energy vehicle across its extensive civic and humanitarian programs.
Simultaneously, EKA Mobility presented an EKA 3S electric vehicle to Marisa Gerards, the Netherlands' Ambassador to India. The presentation underscores the cross-border corporate structure supporting EKA Mobility, which counts Dutch industrial conglomerate VDL Groep, Japan’s Mitsui & Co., the NIIF India-Japan Fund, and Enam Holdings among its core institutional backers. The company remains a prominent designated Champion OEM under the Government of India’s flagship Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the automotive sector.
Industrial Footprint and Inclusive Engineering
The Chakan facility serves as the foundational manufacturing hub for EKA’s commercial trucks and SCVs. Possessing an installed annual production capacity of 24,000 units, the site houses a comprehensive workforce exceeding 1,000 personnel, along with an integrated, state-of-the-art research and development facility powered by over 400 engineers and industrial designers.
A central highlight of the Chakan plant is its pioneering "EvolutioNARI" initiative, under which EKA Mobility has operationalized an all-women-led assembly line dedicated to SCV fabrication. This structural push heavily reinforces the company's commitment to bridging the gender gap within heavy industrial settings, cultivating a technically resilient and inclusive domestic production force.
Expanding to a Multi-Plant Blueprint
EKA Mobility remains the only domestic OEM engineering an end-to-end commercial EV ecosystem that encompasses three-wheelers, small commercial vehicles, e-buses, and heavy-duty trucks. To insulate its operations against capacity constraints and cater to rising procurement tenders from e-commerce platforms, FMCG brands, and municipal state transport undertakings, the firm is executing a multi-layered manufacturing expansion.
Currently, EKA operates its dedicated electric bus plant in Koregaon Bhima, Pune, while aggressively advancing construction on a new 47-acre manufacturing base in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. Once the complete multi-plant network transitions into full commercial operations, EKA Mobility's unified manufacturing matrix will sustain a massive cumulative annual output of 15,000 electric buses, 24,000 small commercial vehicles, and 4,000 electric trucks solidifying its long-term market foothold as a core blue-chip pillar within India's green transport paradigm.
